Website subscription or one-off build: which is actually cheaper?

Pricing

A practical comparison of a £250 launch page and a managed monthly website for a local business.

The cheapest website is the one that solves the problem without creating another one six months later. That can be a small one-off page or a managed monthly site; the right answer depends on what the business needs now.

A £250 launch page makes sense when the offer is simple. It can explain what you do, show where you work, add trust and make calls or enquiries easy. It is deliberately constrained, which keeps the price and launch time down.

A managed website earns its monthly cost when you need several services, stronger search visibility, regular changes, hosting and someone responsible for keeping the whole thing healthy. The value is not merely extra pages. It is continuity.

Compare the full first year, not just the headline. Include setup fees, hosting, domain costs, maintenance, small updates and the time you would otherwise spend working out who fixes what.

Also ask what happens if you leave. Ownership, export and notice terms should be written in plain English before the project starts.

If one focused page will do the job, start there. If the website needs to grow and stay looked after, a managed plan is usually the calmer route. A useful designer should be willing to recommend the smaller option.
