Seven boring website checks that quietly cost enquiries

Website audit

Seven quick mobile, SEO, trust and security checks any local business owner can run without technical tools.

First, open the site on mobile data rather than office Wi-Fi. If the useful part takes several seconds to appear, large images, slow hosting or too much script may be getting between a customer and the call button.

Second, try to call with one thumb. The number should be visible, tappable and consistent. A phone number hidden in the footer is technically present but practically absent.

Third, read the first heading as if you know nothing about the business. It should say what you provide and, for a local service, where you provide it.

Fourth, search for prices, opening hours and service areas. Unanswered basic questions create doubt, and doubt sends people back to Google.

Fifth, submit every form. Check the confirmation message and the receiving inbox. A beautiful form that silently fails is worse than publishing an email address.

Sixth, look for proof that matches the promise: named work where permission exists, clearly labelled anonymised examples, specific outcomes and genuine photos. Avoid statistics you cannot evidence.

Finally, check the quiet technical layer: HTTPS, one page title, a useful meta description, image alt text and common security headers. The free audit on this site checks those basics and explains what matters in plain English.
